Thank you for taking an interest in our calculations!  Admittedly, calculating the total environmental impact of the global agricultural industry is a complicated process. Our numbers come from an extensive, peer reviewed, 2018 Poore and Nemecek study, https://ourworldindata.org/environmental-impacts-of-food?country=

We are measuring our greenhouse gas emissions in pounds of carbon dioxide equivalents per pound of beef produced (specifically, beef for consumption, as opposed to dairy cattle).

• In short, 1 lb of beef produces approximately 100lbs of GHG emissions.
• Which is the most, by far, of any meat product we consume.

We are also assuming 1000lbs of BOTH burgers will replace 1000lbs of regular all-beef burgers.

• Which is a net difference in 500lbs of beef.
• When you consider the average size of a cow is ~1300lbs, and ~40% of that weight produces edible meat, one cow equals ~520lbs of produced meat.
• We also made a small GHG adjustment for our veggies (that account for approximately 2% of our product’s total GHG emissions).

As for our “Happy Customers” calculations, we are assuming one serving size is a quarter-pound burger.

Lastly, for our Individual Impact Calculator we are assuming the average person will live to be 85 years old.  But obviously, if you eat more BOTH Burgers, you could live much longer.
